KASTRUP AIRPORT TRAVELERS

After clearing customs at Kastrup Airport, follow the signs to the Car Rental Center.

Exit Terminal 3 using either the pedestrian bridge or by crossing the street. Then walk to the bus stop next to the Clarion Hotel, where the shuttle bus arrives every 10 minutes.

The shuttle will take you directly to the Sixt office, located inside the Car Rental Center, just a few minutes from the terminal.

Tip 1: If you're traveling with multiple people and have a lot of luggage, one person can pick up the car first and return to collect the rest of the group.

We offer loss damage waiver insurance coverage with a deductible / excess ranging from DKK 0 - 5000. The deductible amount you choose is your financial responsibility in the event of damage to, or theft of the vehicle. Credit card companies often cover their card holders with this insurance. 375kr damage report fee applies to all damage claims.

• DKK 5000 Deductible - In the event of damage or theft of your vehicle, you are financially responsible for a deductible amount up to DKK 5000 

If you drive outside the country of Denmark, in a country that you’re allowed to drive in, you’ll have the same insurance protection that you selected when you booked your rental car.  You can drive your rental car to many countries including Sweden, Norway, and Germany. There is additional fee of 395kr. per month to drive outside Denmark.

The vehicle may not be used to drive in the following countries: Great Britain, Moldova, Belarus, Cyprus, Iceland, Malta, Albany, Israel, Iran, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Russia, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro and Corsica.

We do not collect credit card information at the time of your booking.  You will pay at the rental counter when you pick up your car.  The payment card you use must be in the name of the renter.  We do not accept cash.

We accept all credit cards from internationally recognized credit card companies - such as American Express, Diners Club, Eurocard/MasterCard and Visa Debit cards: MasterCard Debit and Visa Electron are ONLY accepted for car groups smaller than Opel Insignia, VW Passat, Peugeot 508 or similar size and max 30-day rental.

At the rental counter, a deposit will be held on your card to ensure that you have ample funds to cover you in case of the following instances: the car is returned later than the agreed upon time, a gasoline fill-up is needed, a speeding/parking ticket or toll needs to be paid on your behalf.

Deposit amounts held are:

• 2500 DKK: Kia Picanto, Opel Corsa, Mazda 2/3 ,Peugeot 2008, Nissan Zoe or similar size
• 3500 DKK: VW Passat, BMW 3-Series, Honda CRV Suv or similar size
• 4500 DKK: BMW 5-Series,MB GLB 200 SUV or similar size

Deposits will be returned as follows:

• American Express 3 days
• Visa 7 days
• MasterCard 14 days

You can drive your rental car outside of Denmark to many countries including Sweden, Norway, and Germany. There is an additional fee of 75DKK per rental day with a max of 395DKK per month to drive outside Denmark. You will be charged as you are driving outside Denmark for your entire rental period.

The vehicle may may only be used to drive in the following countries: Denmark, Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Ireland, Italy,
Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Monaco, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania,
Switzerland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, the United Kingdom, Sweden, the Czech Republic,
Germany, Hungary, and Austria.

Insurance

You’ll carry the same insurance that you selected when booking your rental car, so long as you drive only in countries you’re allowed to drive in (see inclusion list above).

International Driver’s Licenses

The renter and the driver must be in possession of a valid driving license. Please remember to select your "permanent country of residence" when booking.

An international driver's license is NOT required unless you have a license printed in non-Roman alphabet letters (for example Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Cyrillic, etc.). Driving licenses printed with non-Roman Alphabet (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Cyrillic, etc.) must be complemented by an international driving license.

Toll Roads

You can pay as you pass through tolls. If you do not pay, the toll will be automatically billed to your credit card. Denmark has 1 toll bridge and Norway has several toll roads.

Border Cards

A border card is not required to enter Norway, Sweden, Germany, or any other country you’re allowed to travel in.

In general, the driving rules and regulations are similar to the rest of Europe.  Cars drive in the right lane and pass in the left.  All rental car passengers must wear a seatbelt, and children under 1.3 m/4.3 feet tall must use a booster or car seat.

The speed limit in Denmark towns and cities is 50 kph/31 mph.  On open roads, it is 80 kph/49 mph, and on major four-lane highways, it is 130 kph/81 mph.  These limits are strictly enforced.  Bicycling is common in all parts of the city, and cyclists have right of way.  It is prohibited to use a mobile phone while driving your rental car; only a built-in hands-free system is allowed (not a headset).

When parking your rental car in paid parking areas, you have 2 options:

• Set the clock (p-Skive) attached to your windshield that is furnished by Copenhagen Car Rental
• Buy a parking permit from a parking ticket kiosk that are located on all streets in Copenhagen where paid parking is required

The renter and the driver must be in possession of a valid driving license for a minimum of 1 year.  Please remember to select your "permanent country of residence" when booking a rental car.   

Foreign temporay license is not accepted.

Additional driver: The additional driver does not need to be present at pickup but a copy of the license must be provided.

The minimum age for renting a car is 20 years old.

Drivers under the age of 26 are required to pay a young driver surcharge of DKK 150 and must have had a license for a minimum of 1 or 3 years as follows:

• 20 years old with a license for a minimum of 1 year can rent and drive ECONOMY class cars (up to and including Mazda 3 or similar size)
• 25 years old with a license for a minimum of 1 year can rent and drive STANDARD class cars (up to and including BMW 3-Series or similar size)
• 30 years old with a license for a minimum of 3 years can rent and drive LUXURY class cars like BMW 5-Series or similar size.

Modify or cancel your reservation anytime you’d like.  We never charge a cancellation or change fee.  Your credit card is not charged until you pick up your rental car in Denmark. 

After you've cancelled or changed your reservation, you will receive an email confirmation.  

If you aren't able to modify your booking, it may be because you’re trying to change important information such as the driver’s last name. In these cases,  email us at service@CopenhagenCarRental.com, or cancel your booking and rebook with your changes. 

How to find your reservation without a confirmation email

• Click “Log In” under Returning Customers, at the top right corner on our website 
• Type in your email address:
  • If you’ve logged in before, type your password. Click “Log In.” A list of your reservations will appear. Click on the reservation and make your changes.  Scroll down to click "Update Booking." You'll receive a confirmation email from us with your changes. Kindly check your email's inbox (or your email's spam folder)
  • If you have not logged in before, click “Forgot Password”
• Retype your email address and click “Submit”
• Check your email inbox (or spam folder) to find the temporary password email from us
• Copy the password and paste it into the “Password” field on our website
• Click “Log In”
• A list of your reservations will appear
• Click on the reservation that you would like to modify and make your changes
• Scroll down to click "Update Booking"
• You'll receive a confirmation email from us with your changes.  Kindly check your email's inbox (or your email's spam folder).

Return your rental car to the address printed on your rental confirmation.  We gladly accept car rental returns 24-hours a day with no fees for after-hours returns.  We do not provide refunds for unused rental days in case you return the car early.

After-hours returns

If the Sixt rental car office is closed, place the car keys in the Key Dropbox outside the Sixt office.  At Kastrup Airport, park the rental car in the designated SIXT drop-off area at the Car Rental Centre.  Place the car keys in the Key Dropbox located near the SIXT rental car office.  Then, cross the street to find the Car Rental Centre/Biludlejning shuttle bus.  The free shuttle bus runs every 10 minutes and will take you to Kastrup Airport.

It's not necessary to fill up your gas tank before returning the car.  You will be charged 29 DKK per liter if you do not fill up.

Electric cars must be returned with a 80% charge or a fee will apply.

You're welcome to extend your rental to keep the car for additional days.  If you haven't picked up your rental car yet, modify your booking from your confirmation email.  If you've already picked up your rental car, simply call the customer service phone number listed on your rental contract.

You can change the driver's FIRST name by clicking the Modify Booking button. To change the driver's LAST name, you need to cancel your current reservation and make a new reservation, Or we can change the name at pickup.

"Send Request" and "On Request" means that the car category you're trying to book is in short supply and so the reservation must be handled manually.

Please allow 2 business days for the reservation to be processed manually.  Then you will receive either a "Booking Confirmation" or "Booking Declined" email.

Child seats, baby seats, and booster seats are available and listed under "Extras" when you're making a reservation.  It's a good idea to order ahead of time, but you can also request them at the pick-up counter in Denmark. 

If you forgot to request child seats while booking, you can MODIFY your reservation. After you make your changes, you will receive an email confirmation, check your email's inbox (or your email's spam folder).

Only people residing outside Denmark can rent a tax-free car.  Anyone however, holding Diplomatic credentials can rent a car tax free.

In the winter season (November 1st - April 1st) winter tires can be added as an "extra" when you're making your reservation online.  

What does the law say?
From 1 July 2025, it is not permitted to drive with tires that are clearly unsuitable when there is snow, ice, slush, or frost on the roads. This means that summer tires may not be used under winter conditions. Violating these rules may result in a fine of DKK 1,000 per tire.

When do the rules apply?
There is no fixed winter period. The rules apply when weather conditions require it—namely in cases of snow, ice, slush, or frost. The police assess whether the tires are suitable in the specific situation.

In Denmark, it is a legal requirement to drive on tires that are not clearly unsuitable for the prevailing
conditions. The renter is at all times fully responsible for ensuring that the vehicle is equipped with legal
and appropriate tires. By commencing the rental, the renter confirms this responsibility and accepts that
SIXT will not compensate for any unused rental days resulting from weather conditions incompatible
with the mounted tires. SIXT disclaims any liability for the renter’s failure to comply with the laws of
Denmark or any other country, including any fines, expenses, damages, or other consequences arising
therefrom.
